DESTINATION HIGHLIGHTS
- Arusha: The gateway to Tanzania’s Northern wildlife parks, Arusha is also an eclectic town that melds local Tanzanian as well as European influences. Often called the “Switzerland of Africa”, Arusha has beautiful museums and art galleries, as well as places to shop for local artwork (paintings, sculptures, masks) as well as jewelry (TANZANITE, etc.)
- Tarangire National Park: Although not as well-known as its neighbors, Ngorongoro and Serengeti, Tarangire is a wildlife gem in its own right. This is the place where you can see some of the largest herds of elephants with the biggest tuskers in Tanzania. Tarangire also has a good-sized predator population, iconic herbivores like giraffe, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, impala, etc. as well as wonderful birdlife.
- Ngorongoro Conservation Area: Often called “The Garden of Eden” because of the variety and density of wildlife, the Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most breathtaking places in the world. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site – for good reason.
- Serengeti National Park: In the Maasai language, “Serengeti” means “Endless Plains”. And that
is exactly what this most famous of African parks is…a very large savannah/grassland area that
is teeming with all the iconic African wildlife species living in an unadulterated, natural habitat.
The location of several National Geographic as well as BBC Nature shows and specials,
Serengeti is also home to The Great Wildebeest & Zebra Migration!
